Pink Chain Campaign:
CANSURvive: Subah ka patah, a play of Pink Chain Campaign, is the first production in the realm of Hindi Playwriting concerning how to approach cancer, its victims and its consequences. The play is based on the book ‘CANSURvive: Subah Ka Patah’ published by Rajkamal Prakashan.
The play is written by Mr.Asif Ali and directed by Ms. Vandana Vashisht, an eminent director and an alumunus from National School of Drama, is a stylised depiction of a deadly disease cancer and how it penetrates into human body and making its system porous.
This play is an initiative by Dr. Abhishek Shankar as a part of his awareness campaign regarding feeling of self-care, protection of self-worth and maintenance of healthy lives. It emerged from the epicentre novel by Late Smt. R. Anuradha, ‘Indradhanush ke pichhe - pichhe’ which is an autobiographical account that reveals the cancerous phase of her life where she refused to succumb to it. This book in itself is a personification of win of life over death.
"CANSURvive: Subah ka patah" is an original work that stresses on the celebration of life and evaluates the significance of being alive. It deals with perspectives and perceptions about Cancer explored through Rajni and Kamal, the protagonists of the play. In addition to their individual lives and their fight within, this play brings into account the cancer of the system that has percolated through the stereotypical notions and patriarchal outlook. It elongates the greatness of being alive rather than carrying a social image where both women become strengths for each other, to fight back.
The cast of the play includes Ms. Sonal Jha (as Kamal), a renowned TV actor known for her contribution in serials like BalikaVadhu, Mr. Bhupesh Kumar Pandya (husband of Kamal) a renowned theatre and film actor known for his work in ‘Vicky Donor’. Ms. Sajida (as Rajni) and Mr. Vivek (husband of Rajni) are renowned theatre actors from National School of Drama. The lively music has been contributed by the eminent music director Mr. Kajal Ghosh.
Cansurvive, therefore proposes to the possibility of survival for cancer victims, the potential of life after and the positivity of resistance towards it, thus, making the play remedy in itself emphasising on self-worth and one’s relationship with one’s own self, the prime of all bonds.
